Post-industrialization is changing urban environments, providing an opportunity to revive cultural authenticity one neighborhood at a time. The lesson for planners and investors is that people seek meaningful personal interaction, and intimate cultural spaces can help generate a vibrant and creative local economy. People are also drawn to an aesthetic that is natural and organic rather than sterile and planned. Real defeats fake, and in the case of cultural development, small may be the new large.
